RENOVATION

Demonstration Kitchen and Food Pantry

Boston Medical Center

Providing patients with medically and culturally appropriate food from the Preventive Food Pantry, fresh produce from the Roof Top Farm, and culinary skills and nutrition education from the Teaching Kitchen.

The Demonstration Kitchen, attached to the seating area, is used to teach healthy cooking, with live demonstrations to patients with nutrition and diet concerns. Cameras above the demonstration area deliver a direct view of food being prepared and show a livestream of the roof garden when not in use.

The kitchen program works in conjunction with BMC’s Food Pantry program, which provides free groceries to patients to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

The new 200-seat Cafeteria overlooking the Yawkey Lobby combined two previous food service facilities that were displaced by an expanded surgery department.  It offers a variety of international cuisines prepared to order, the seating area features a multi-media wall to advertise hospital programs and information.
